In recent years Roscrea RFC has experienced a very significant increase in children, teenagers and young adults taking up the sport of Rugby. There are now 16 age groups and teams with over 350 players training and playing at the club. The resurgence of Girls rugby which returned to Roscrea RFC in 2017 has been a huge factor in the upwards growth and positivity. In 2020 the clubs senior team were crowned league champions having won all 14 of their matches . This recent success and growth in terms of numbers has inspired the club’s management committee to start a process of reimagining how the club will be developed into the future. As a result of this, Roscrea RFC strategist and development committee chairman Jim Dwyer has been tasked with forming a working group to plan a pathway to all future structural developments. The objective and primary focus of this plan is to commence the process of building an improved facility to collectively benefit the many diverse groups within the club.
- Phase 1. The first phase of the development plan will see the installation of new and upgraded pitch lighting. This will result in an increased number of groups being able to train in the evenings while simultaneously improving the quality of their training.
- Phase 2. This phase will consist of the enlargement of the current clubhouse to incorporate extra changing rooms, toilets and showers to facilitate the growth of girl’s rugby and increase in player numbers at the club. Improved Wheelchair accessibility will also be incorporated into the building upgrade.
- Phase 3. This will see the construction of a recreational walking track at the club, with the aim of improving the experience for parents with buggies as well as giving better access to all parts of the site.
- Phase 4. The objective of stage 4 will be to install an artificial 4g playing surface. This will give the clubs teams and age groups an all season and all-weather venue for training and matches.
