The Roscrea RFC girls u14s welcomed Portlaoise RFC to Streamstown on Saturday, January 25th for a 2:00pm kick off. This was the 2nd meeting of the 2 clubs with Portlaoise running out victorious in the previous fixture earlier in the season. The Roscrea girls have been training diligently recently, developing new tactics and combinations and building a positive game plan. Coaches Mark Kenneally and Tim Meagher have been very pleased with how the team has learned and adapted throughout the season, with the players showing a great hunger for playing the game.
Against an excellent and well coached Portlaoise team, the Roscrea girls had to be at their very best. From the first whistle they played with a positivity and togetherness that ultimately reaped its deserved rewards. After a hard-fought contest with some excellent spells of attack and defiant defence from both sides, the Roscrea girls eventually ran out 30 – 20 winners. Tries were scored by Abbey Meagher, Ciara Kennedy, Caoimhe Quinlan and Aoibhe Kelly. The team was Captained wonderfully by Erin Wakefield with Emma Lynch ably assisting her as Vice-Captain. There were some super defensive displays by forwards Jane Trousdell Dudley, leah Delaney and Sarah Jane O’Meara with full back Sarah Maher Keneally, out half Ella Dann and winger Cara Feeley all contributing hugely in attack.
Afterwards Roscrea RFC girl’s rugby coordinator Ciara Maher thanked Portlaoise and wished them well for the remainder of the season, she also thanked the parents and followers who had attended the game, dedicating the victory to their encouragement and support.
