The Roscrea Boys u14s welcomed neighbours Birr RFC to Streamstown for their scheduled Leinster school’s youth league clash on Sunday, March 8th. In what was a highly entertaining game, Roscrea eventually ran out 57 – 5 winners, with tries from the ever-impressive Robert Carney (4), his centre partner Billy Hayes, James Ryan, Cathal Byrne, Matthew Bergin and a super team score finished by Joe Stapleton. The move was started at the back of a strong scrum where Josh Loughnanne fed out half Fionn Carney, his brother Robert acted as the decoy runner as Billy Hayes received the pass from the outhalf and offloaded beautifully back to Fionn Carney who slalomed his way through the defence before putting Joseph Stapleton over in the corner. Fionn Carney was in excellent form with the boot scoring 7 conversions. Afterwards Roscrea RFC boys u14s head coach William Hayes thanked Birr and wished them well for the remainder of the season. He also paid tribute to Dave Pearson and K9 security Ireland who sponsored new shorts and socks for the team. Next up for William Hayes’s men is an away date against Skerries RFC.
