On Sunday January 19th , the Roscrea RFC Boys u13s were scheduled to play De la salle Palmerstown at home in Streamstown. However, after a pitch inspection by the officiating team, the surface was deemed unplayable due to the heavy frost the previous night. The fixture was rescheduled for Tuesday, January 21st to be played in De la Salle Palmerstown.
Head coach Michael Moloney with his assistants Mervyn Murphy and Ollie Stapleton traveled with their team to the capital for a 7:45 kick in Palmerstown under lights. De la salle Palmerstown have been playing very well this season, they are a well coached and talented team who play the game in the true spirit of the sport. Roscrea knew that they would be in for a tough game from the very start with the early exchanges providing some superb spells of attack and defense from both sides. Indeed Roscrea were quite fortunate to hold the home side just short of the try line on a few occasions, resorting to their fantastic line speed in defense and a collective determination not to concede. Eventually Roscrea broke through the De la Salle Palmerstown rearguard with a well worked team try as winger Declan Walsh dotted down for his sides solitary try of the game. The ever reliable boot of Killian Murphy added the conversion accompanied by a penalty kick to give Roscrea a 10 – 3 victory at the final whistle.
After the game head coach Michael Moloney thanked the hosts for their wonderful hospitality and wished them well into the future, he also paid tribute to the travelling Roscrea support who had made the journey accrediting their encouragement as a huge factor in the teams success this season.
Next up for the Roscrea RFC boys u13s is a home cup tie welcoming high flying Coolmine RFC to Streamstown on Sunday, January 26th for a 12pm kick off. All Support welcome.
