The Roscrea RFC boys u13s have been in excellent form this season. Its this groups first year of competitive rugby and they have truly passed all expectations and are a shining light for the positive virtues of the sport. Head coach Michael Moloney with his excellent assistants have instilled in the team a collective comradery and honesty which is evident in how they present themselves not just on the field of play, but also off it! This is one of the most important benefits of disciplined team sport at this age, the positive elements feed into all aspects of life. Being part of a team leads to improved confidence, resilience, determination and focus, this when added to the obvious physical and mental health benefits, can make it a very positive factor in a child’s development.
On Sunday, 26 January, the Roscrea RFC boys u13s welcomed Coolmine RFC boys u13s C to streamstown for their scheduled Leinster Cup fixture. The team have had a strong run of form in the League recently and the Coaches saw this fixture as an ideal opportunity to try some new combinations and tactics. From the outset both teams played with great positivity, contributing some excellent spells of attack and defence. Gradually Roscrea started to gain an upper hand against a spirited Coolmine who played with great passion and defended valiantly. In the end it was the all-round team performance from the home side that most impressed. With tries from Declan Walsh, James Sampson, Calum Murphy, Shane Monaghan, Shay Gleeson, Cormac Coleman and a wonderful debut try from James O’Sullivan with Aaron Moloney and killian Murphy adding points from the boot, Roscrea ran out 58 – 0 winners.
Afterwards Roscrea Head coach Michael Moloney thanked Coolmine for making the journey and wished them well for the rest of the season, he also paid tribute to second row James Sampson who received the Man of the match award and Levente Kunos who played very well on his debut for the club.
