The Roscrea RFC management committee was recently delighted to announce that current Roscrea RFC senior team head coach John Maher will be staying on in the position for the 2021/2022 season. John has been a tremendous servant to Roscrea RFC, having played for the club for many years along side his 3 brothers. He was recently inducted into the club’s hall of legends when he received a lifetime achievement award after guiding the Roscrea RFC senior team to an invincible unbeaten season, gaining promotion to the leinster league Division 2B. He will take the reins for a 4th successive year. Club President Terry Farrelly commented that the club was delighted with the news and looked forward to the forthcoming season with renewed enthusiasm.
Since taking over the reigns 3 years ago, John has instilled a new self-belief and determination in the team and this was clearly evident in their league winning campaign of 2019/20. Alongside his coaching assistant Ray Maloney, John has always been an advocate of training hard and preparing for games in a meticulous manner. He has brought a ‘never say die’ attitude to the manner in which his team perform on the pitch and this has been the hallmark of the results and performances in recent years.
